Bought a 57 235 to replace a spash oiled 235 in my 45 1.5 ton truck. Previous Owner pulled out the pushrods without labeling them. (Why? heck if I know) I've heard they should go back in the same holes they came out of. How critical is this? Or can I put them back in anywhere and reset the lash? (Solid Lifters)

BTW the engine is a low milage rebuild previously adapted to a 53 Pickup, so all the mounts are in the right place! Guy decided he had to have a V8.

It is not a big deal. The valves may become noisy at first as they wear in, but I doubt it.

Pushrods aren't critical at all, as long as the ends aren't showing significant wear. The lifters absolutely must stay with the cam lobes they ran-in on, so if it's ever necessary to remove them, or turn the engine to an angle where they might fall out of their bores, take them out and label them so they can go back into the same hole they came out of.

Mr. Jerry and Dave are right! Push rods dont need to go back in the holes they came from, But the lifters MUST. Check for straightness and wear,If good put them in where you want.

Great! Lifters are still in, so no problem there.
