The 194/230/250/292 heads all interchange, including the later integral. They all have the same disadvantage, Siamese intake ports. The 194 combustion chamber smaller and will up your compression, unfortunately it is all so limited performance wise because of valve shrouding. Inliners.org has a partial listing of heads and combustion chamber size. If you need to know what it takes to get performance out of one of the heads check out http://www.t6racing.org/Larry
I don't own a vehicle that isn't old enough to drink. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,216 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,216 | All is correct information. Stay away from the real late model heads with the intake cast into the head. Performance wise, they all will be the same, the late model with the intake cast has a two barrel carb, which might run better, but the heads are prone to heat cracks.
Your best bet is to grab the first good head you find.
For a 250, add 307 Chevrolet V8 pistons for slightly over 1 point compression increase. Its a drop in piston, just be sure its a true flat top, not the universal replacement.

They have lots of info on the 250, including the 307 piston. It's a popular modification. For a 292 you can use LP pistons for higher compression.

It must be a true flat top, some of the universal replacements have lots of valve relief cuts plus a big chamfer around outside edge.
