1949 GMC Pickup, motor starts fine but only when choking, can not drive when choking, motor just stops. If choke is pushed off motor kills.

New fuel pump 60 days ago, truck had been running fine daily....

Did this come on all of a sudden?
What brand is the carb?
Sounds like you have a vacuum leak.

Zenith carb.....I pumped Sea Foam directly into carb....trucks running fine right now, probably junk from tank, I removed the tank and treated and sealed a few years back.

Truck has 18,000 miles, no rust, could use a new paint job, missing nothing from top to bottom...I love the truck, but it has been a bit tempermental(sp)....

Thanks for your response, what would cause a vacuum leak, where?

Have a grateful day!

Jim

What did you seal the tank with? Some sealers have problems with ethanol. That may be an old problem.

My GMC 270 was doing that, it turned out to be a vacuum leak and crud keeping the float needle open. The carb was wet with gas- leaking out the throttle plate shaft opening.

Well, my time went so quickly,
I went lickety-splitly
Out to my ol' 55.
As I pulled away slowly,
Feelin' so holy,
God knows, I was feelin' alive..... Tom Waits, Ol' 55
