What brand is the carb? Sounds like you have a vacuum leak.

Truck has 18,000 miles, no rust, could use a new paint job, missing nothing from top to bottom...I love the truck, but it has been a bit tempermental(sp)....
Thanks for your response, what would cause a vacuum leak, where?

My GMC 270 was doing that, it turned out to be a vacuum leak and crud keeping the float needle open. The carb was wet with gas- leaking out the throttle plate shaft opening. Dave
