I believe I can fix it with an Oakie Bushing. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | An Okie bushing stops transmission oil from running back inside the torque tube into the rear end. It sounds like you just need a U joint bell gasket set. Make sure you follow the bell adjustment outlined in the Shop Manual. Bottom right of this page

My Blog | | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 146 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 146 | I looked at it again and seems like the ball joint collar oil cork seal is bad based on the spot where the oil is leaking (about 6" rear of universal ball joint at torque tube). I'll have to order the gasket set and get some transmission fluid. Any suggestions for manual transmission fluid? I have an oil leak just to the rear of the ball joint and it goes down the first part of the propellar shaft and leaks out again at the support bearing. I have read the shop manual. the 3/4 ton does not have the same design for the placement of the cork seal as seen in the pics for the 1/2 ton. After using the shims as outlined for the ball connector where would the cork seal go on a 3/4 ton, also would a 1/2 ton universal joint kit work on a 3/4 ton. thanks again for the help chalres | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,953 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,953 | Best way to check if the seal in the torque tube is finished is to check both the transmission and differential fluids. If the trans is dry and the differential overflows then its the seal. From experience I hope it is not. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 50 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 50 | thanks sedgewick, I will check it out, I think the cork gasket in question fits inside the ball on a 3/4 ton, using the shims should help too. (i think the shims and gasket were left out by the previous owner, therefore the leak) thanks | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | thanks sedgewick, I will check it out, I think the cork gasket in question fits inside the ball on a 3/4 ton, using the shims should help too.
