I went out to start it this morning and it cranked over and over and over never hitting but then it just stoped cranking and nothing worked not even the lights!! I checked everything theres still hot goin to the igintion switch I checked it and then when I turn the lights on the hot is gone from the igition switch but the lights dont ever work. But keep in mind it was cranking and in the middle of cranking it stoped working the battery is totally charged and working. IT has done this before but it fixed its self (I dunno how). does anyone have ANY idea what this could be? A short? a bad connection? someone please HELP!!  | | |

Sounds like you drained it while trying to crank the truck. Case in point, when you turn on the lights you get no voltage on the ignition and no lights. The load of having the lights on drops the battery to zero. I would try another battery and go from there. | | |
#88294 03/18/2003 4:37 AM | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 | What we have here (my guess)is that the cannection at the battery, the starter or in between these points needs cleaned and or tightened. Most likely both, it couldn`t hurt to clean and make sure there is good contact. The other possibility is the starter solenoid itself getting hot or has a bad contact inside that loses flow of electricity when heated up. Check the battery cables first to eliminate the easy stuff first

#88295 03/18/2003 5:02 AM | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 30 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 30 | What you have is a bad connection, batt to starter or batt to ground.Take a voltage meter not a test light,turn on headlights [this is when you loose voltage] measure across batt, if 12v +/- its good,measure neg term to clean spot on engine if any voltage shows you have bad ground cable. Measure pos term to copper stud on starter solinoid,if voltage there pos cable is bad.  | | |
