I believe that you have a '52.

The 1952 Operator's Manual calls for #55 six-volt bulbs in the instrument cluster. Use #57 if your electrical system has been converted to twelve volts.

Gas Gauge Info from Fifth Avenue Antique Auto Parts:
"If dash gauge reads, FULL when tank is known to be only half full the wiring between the tank or the sender is bad. Ground the gas tank sender terminal using a jumper wire, if the dash gauge still shows full there is bad wiring between the dash gauge and the tank sender. If the dash gauge goes to empty, the gas tank sender is defective."

Related Question: When you switch to 12 volts, does anything need to be done to the sending unit to have the gauge read correctly? Thanx in advacne for any info!

hey Hamber - the sender don't know from voltage, it's just resistance [30 ohms originally], but 12V will fry your 6V gauge, it'll need a dropping [Runtz] resistor or a different gauge, which would also need to be compatible with the 30 ohm sender
