looking for the replacement ends that butt up to wheel cylinders. mine have lost their depth, and will no longer adjust the wheel cylinder. if someone has 1 sitting around, good. but if you have four of the complete shafts, wonderful.

olhoke - you need to make a parts request in the Parts Wanted Swap Forum - and specify the year [43?] .... you also need to clarify just what you're looking for, there is no "pinion shaft" in the brakes, and nothing that "adjusts the wheel cylinder" ... maybe you need the cylinder to shoe rod?

Bill, those parts exist. They actually are called pinions. They are a small wheel with nubs on it that when turned from a bolt head on the backing plate, adjust the wheel cylinder caps and hence the brake shoe to drum contact.

I swear I've seen a vendor carrying them in the past...

I have often wondered if one could remove them and cut slots to adjust them like the front ones. I really like the rear adjusters, it is just that when they are gone it is a problem.

The backing plates complete with adjusters, come up on Ebay all the time.

I don't think he's looking for the backing plates, I think he is looking for the piece that fits over the wheel cylinder. Correct?

No, he is looking for the adjusters that are mount through the backing plate, have a bolt head on the outside and a gear on the inside. He could buy the endcaps easily even if it meant new cylinders.

On my 48 the adjusters can't be removed. I had one that had broken off and welded it back on to the stud. New cylinders are $120/each. If OP just wants the endcaps, I've got them..... Send me a PM.
