Steele Rubber has a correct molded repro of the barn door rubber for the TF series, a bit spendy but perfect - if it's not listed on the website give them a call, they do have it

hey Les, the reason Steeles repro of the rubber is perfect is cuz I happened on a set of NOS doors years ago [dealer take-offs] that had good rubber in place, and I sent it to Steele for patterns grin they gave me a minor break on 2 sets ohwell but I let them keep the originals for their 'library' anyway .... anyone with a TF that has the barn doors should have those seals thumbs_up

Larry, if it's not from Steele than it's just the side door rubber 'by the foot' that doesn't have the correct [and vital] formed corners and corner clips as seen here ... ask them if it's from Steele

Mike:

I'm glad you like the doors. They were a pretty sweet set. :-)

Since I sold the barn doors to Mike I need the rubber for the clam shell doors on my 58 Suburban. Anyone know if Steele sells clam shell seals? Or anyone else for that matter?

Thanks

if it's not in Steeles catalog, call and ask, I know they've reproduced the rubber seal for the glass

This thread is a little dated but I thought I'd post a follow up. I was at Classic Parts for the KC Chevy/GMC truck club meeting the other day and picked up some door rubber for my clam shell doors. On closer inspection I found the the perimeter of the upper and lower doors had holes drilled for the rubber seal clips just like the driver/passenger doors. On a hunch I had them give me a front door rubber set and I test fitted it on the clam shell. Fit like a charm. I bought the kit and installed it the next day. It works great. The clam shell doors are slightly smaller in circumference so I had to trim the ends to fit. I put a little weather strip adhesive at the seam and it looks quite nice. It helps out tremendously with rattle/road noise and exhaust fumes.

So, although it is not marketed for the the clam shell doors, the Classic Parts #03-012 "(1955-59) Door Rubber Seals - Clip on - pair" works like a charm.

I assume it would work on barn doors as well.

Thanks

wrong assumption Larry wink the side door rubber can be used on the barn doors but doesn't get the proper seal where the doors meet, Steele rubber has the correct seal for the barn doors that has the correct corners and ends as I linked above, only way to do it right

Well, my Steele barn door kit, along with their sealer, is safe in my shop.
I am waiting for a warm day to work outside with a "flammable" liquid to disolve the old adhesive.

Bill;

Hooah. Good point. Now that I think about it, the weather stripping doesn't match up all the that great where the upper and lower doors meet in the corners.

When I disassemble the doors for eventual painting I'll contact Steele to see if they have the correct rubber. It's good enough for now, but as you say "not the best way to do it right."

I found a use for the leftover weather stripping. I cut it into pieces and wedged it in between the roof arches and the roof. Without a headliner in the back the roof would slap up and down at highway speed. Very annoying. Now there is no more noise.

Thanks

Larry
