Hi I have a 49 chevy P/U and it came in parts. I am working on the steering column. I was wondering about the shifter control that mounts on the steering column just above the steering box. I have the old one but don't know the condition or if it needs to be rebuilt. Have not opened it up but there is a hole in part of the box. which looks like a plug in it. Does anyone have a used one or how to rebuild one. Did not find any on line.

Its real easy. Just open it up and it should make pretty good sense.

The hole can be plugged with a grease plug/cap available at any hardware store. I got a stainless cap from Ace that was less than a dollar.
They look like this - http://www.classicparts.com/images/91-205.jpg - and are identical to the ones from the regular online parts vendors.

as Eric sez, those boxes are pretty straight forward, mostly you'll just need to clean it out and re-grease it, and probably replace the rubber [available from any repro vendor]

I shifted my truck to third yesterday and my column shifter broke I have a fifty five first series that has the original column shift. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement shift lever

the parts wanted section of the swap forums or maybe e-bay

Thanks I keep looking but haven't found anything out there what a bummer so far but I will keep looking

Try calling one of the Vendors like Patrick's or Jim Carter. They may have something laying around.
