Mine has a screw that holds a sleeve from the back inside the glove box. The sleeve is larger than the opening in the dash so it holds the lock in. They are not all the same, 47-55 GMC & Chevrolet truck.
I have a 54/55 GMC glovebox lock with no screw. My 54 Chevy truck locks have screws.
I'll post a picture tonight. I cannot figure how to get the lock off. Post a picture if you can.

If your lock face has a small hole you typicaly insert the key and a pin into lock to remove the cylinder. I forget if you lock or unlock the cylinder. I think I am now confronted with the same problem on a 54/55 GMC. Others have posted this question in the past. Here is a long and boring (and possibly confusing) web page with some photos: GeoRichards, is the first photo on that page similar to the back side of your lock assembly? materman, I was writing my post when you were posting. Your lock attachment sounds like mine.
