V-8 or V-6? IF it's a V-6, I have a 4 speed hydra-matic (so rare there almost a rumor).

I'm sorry I gave the impression that I was looking to sell. I meant that is what I'm running - Sorry about that.

There arn't many options for an over drive in our trucks. There was a Clark 5spd with OD, it's listed in the shop manual, and the 3spd. IMO the 305 would tear up the 3spd with out much effort. Gear Venders has a OD, but they are a little pricey. Another option would be an RPO MY6 (aka NP 440, A833) from an 82-86 truck. It looks like a passenger car 4spd. but 4th is an OD. Chrysler used there version behind everything from the the slant six to the hemi, and in everything from the Dart to 3/4 ton trucks.

I think that you will find that the 3 speed with O/D was an option for these trucks

A dual range Hydra-Matic, although it is a 4 speed, is not an overdrive transmission and will not answer the OP's original request.
SM318 and Sm 319 were used with the V-6's but the parts manual has no reference to the Borg Warner Overdrive (R-10) transmissions. They were pretty light duty and COULD be added by you but do not appear to have come from the GMC Factory. You could look for a Spicer 2021 2 speed auxiliary trans. That could either be an overdrive or underdrive depending on your placement in the driveline.
I think the T-5 is probably the path of least resistance and the best bang for the buck. Of course a T-5 is not a 4 speed either. Perhaps the A833 od trans or nv 4500 may be other options if you can get one cheaply. The nv 4500's have skyrocketed in popularity and therefore price. But you will need to figure out the adapters for them.

I discovered I have one of these in a '60-'61 GMC Suburban with a 305 and the 4-speed HydraMatic. They have an odd shift indicator.
