I will here advance my theory that all electrical components operate on smoke. This smoke moves within the components themselves and thru wires between the components. If you see smoke coming out of a wire or component, it will then usually fail to work, because it has lost its smoke. Only solution is to buy another which has its factory packed smoke still in it. I have tested this theory many times -it almost always works, unless you have lost only a very small amount of smoke from your system.

That smoke is expensive too...I've always found that the more smoke you loose the more money it'll cost you...

I learned a long time ago that electrical devices are powered by magic and smoke. if you let the smoke out, the magic does not work anymore

It is not only electrical things either. I have a Fjord whose engine let out all it's smoke and now it won't run either.

I will see if I can find a good supply of smoken to re-fill it and it may run again :p

gobsow: My electrician that works for me in our shop thought I was nuts when I explained this amazing stovebolt theory. But, at lunch today he had to apologize. Seems he was drilling a hole thru a cement floor the hole smoked just a second and then a large bang (208) does that! I said Frank you let the smoke out and the wires got mad they went bang and 6 patient rooms have no A/C. You guys are GENIOUSES. popcorn

Well, popcorn, scientific theorys can never be proven, only disproven. Your electrician has simply put the stovebolt theory to a test and the theory withstood this challenge. For our further education, I might add that this theory apparently does not apply to my hands, which recently smoked in 480 v. Thank the Lord they still work.

My Fjord?..why it's the 300CID straight six ofcourse. It was nice for 165,000 miles then knock knock knock puff puff...

Lucas? You mean the Lord of Darkness?

I thought it was kind of funny a number of years back when the US goverment was trying to sue Lucas for the problematic electrical parts that had been put into a number of the US military planes. All they had to do was ask anyone who has ever driven a british motorcycle or car just how great Lucas was before they put it into a plane.. And yes it is proven.. smoke does make things work.. just watch a corvette go up... it's not going to work again...

The smoke system will also work when you've lost your tourqe specs. Tighten the nut or bolt untill it smokes, then back it off a half a turn.

I know this is the 'lectric forum, but while we're on the subject of little known physics theroies, have you guys heard of the latest thing being used at the "Skunkworks"? It's called the Squinch Coefficient. It's a combination of the physical properties commonly known as squeeze and pinch. The SC, as it's now referred to by engineers, physicists and proctologists, is the amount of squeezing and pinching force applied by a device, fastener, channellock pliers or budget, or any of a number of other things.
The SC was unwittingly developed by Helmut Visse and Stanislas Grippe in a garage, in Skokie Illinois, in the 1930's. I'm sure you'll all remember that they invented the Visegrip, locking pliers. Even though their pliers were a big hit at the 1939 World's Fair in New York, the SC was ignored by academia and industry until the Skunkworks adopted it as a measure of testing exploding bolts. Well the rest is history.....

Yes it is true!! If the majic smoke gets out it will quit working. :rolleyes:
