I don't recall if they were commercially available or if someone did a custom job. Anybody know who makes them? It's either that or the 3m no slip tape. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 | I don't know if this breaks the rules here, but this is the answer to your question. I will use these myself when I get to that point. They are not cheap, and after diligent search and inquiry, I have not found any others. I saw these on a car during crusin the coast last year and he gave me his info. http://mcmillanrodandcustom.com/Moldings.ivnu

Along the same line someone here on the bolt had made they on step "plates" out of some stainless or some type boiler plating but they had rounded the corners. It looked nice the way they had made them but I can't remember who....and now thats what I'd like to have. (it looked "different" and was not the regular old plating though) If the guy who did them reads this and lets me know I'll buy hin a hot dog and pepsi. !!!!
If you do the strip's please update us. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 | Alan Horvath made some step plates. I will update when I do these strips or others When I do them.

I have them on my running boards and they save a lot of wear & tear on the paint for sure. The stainless strips DonA mentioned look great but sure cost $$$. I'm not sure they would protect the paint unless you spaced them a few inches apart as people tend to step and twist the sole of their shoes as they enter / leave the cab. As well, the bright polished stainless will scratch up. If you like the strip idea, I'd have a look at narrow stainless steel flat bar with a brushed finish at your local metal supply house - maybe attach it with a good epoxy adhesive ?? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 | The strips in the link will attach with nuts as they are prefabbed with attachments.
I would want to put a strip on each rib, which would run the price up even higher. I may just use short peices in my application (panel truck) as no one would stand on the running board away from the door.

Now I just have to decide if I want to pay that much for my daily driver. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 | I was revisiting this topic and it came to my feeble mind that the ss center windshield moulding might be repurposed for step strips.

I'm sure we'd all like to see what you did. Solution: Found 1/2" half round SST rod at "McMaster-Carr" in 8 foot pieces. Used scrap wood strips to figure out the pattern I wanted. Cut and polished the strips (I chose to use a chisel tip end). Used a 3-M double sided tape used to hold plastic trim on cars. Been on now for over 5 years with no problems and they still look great. This car is a driver that gets about 6k miles a year.
