A replacement plug should have on one it or you should be able to go to the hardware store and get a new washer for your current plug. Looks kind of like this.

Will you please post the source when you find a crush washer that Tiny described. I need one, too.

I would just replace the entire thing if it's old and leaking. ...could also be your pan threads. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 1,232 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 1,232 | BLUEMANIE - That's too simple. Sometimes the obvious just has to slap me in the face!! Which of these NAPA oil drain plugs is closest to the original plug in a '54 235? I know they all probably work and no one will ever see it but me; just trying to satisfy my "picky gene." < CLICK > NAPA oil drain plugsThanks,

If you want exact, one of the online stores lists one with a picture as an "exact replacement for the original" ... Carter or Classic maybe, can't remember offhand.

But I did learn what single-, double-, and triple-oversize mean. < CLICK > Drain plug definitionsAs usual, I'm overthinking a simple task. I'll try a gasket first, then a new plug if needed at the next oil change. oldchevyguy: Sorry for hijacking your thread.

They would seal without much effort I would think. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,774 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,774 | Good in theory, but they just don't work. A hard nylon or copper drain plug gasket, combined with a smooth, flat surface to seal against is the best of all possible situations. I like to draw-file the pan area around the plug to make sure there's not a pulled thread or other irregularity that prevents the washer from getting a good seal. Jerry
