I got that taken care of with the new install of a VDO fuel sender that works hand in hand with VDO fuel gauge. The new sender didnt have the port for the fuel line. Should be a picture on the new one.
Relay avail,Aotozone ,Orielly,etc
edit-if your system is 12 VDC

If not I'd look for a sender that incorporates the suction line as it was stock.
As another option you can modify your tank to have a suction tube or drain wherever you please.
The fuel sender system I've used many times looks like a 5 gallon can of fuel, it goes in the bed. When the tank is low on fuel the engine makes a distinct sputtering sound, at that point you cut the ignition and pull over preferably on the left side of a hill such that the filler neck is high, makes it easier to pour the fresh fuel in without a funnel....

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
