For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 7 | good morning, all. time to get down to business with our newly acquired '58. three questions to start: is there a source for original type keys who can cut them from the factory number? where do both ends of the clutch return spring attach? did the 58 half tons have Borg-Warner OD as a factory option? ok, four questions- what's the most useful service/repair manual for this truck? thanks......

Original type keys are available on Ebay. Any locksmith with a 1935-66 GM code book can cut them.
For service and repair manuals I like to have the factory service manual and a Motors Truck Repair Manual. Before starting an operation I read through both. The factory manual was written by tech writers and they refer to the special factory tools needed; the Motors Manuals were written by mechanics who have done the job and offer some tips and shortcuts. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | | | | | | Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 7 | hmmmm......so many forums....will take the clutch/OD questions where they belong......
back to the KEY question: there are Ford and MoPar key guys out there who can supply original pattern keys by number. looking for the GM equivalent- so I can just email him and say "I need 2 keys #8518" and he will shoot them out to me. is there a one-stop-shopping supplier like that anywhere?
