Hey guys, I have a question. What should my compression be on my 216? The engine is a 1953, all stock.

Sure appreciate any info.

Thanks.

That chart seems to be a little optomistic on compressiion pressure. As long as the pressures don't vary a lot, compression from 80-100 PSI should be acceptable. A maximum variation of about 7%-10% from one cylinder to another is considered to be acceptable. Be sure you're cranking the engine with a well-charged battery, with all the spark plugs removed and the throttle blocked wide open. I've seen stovebolt engines run pretty smoothly with compression as low as 40-50 PSI as long as all the cylinders were within a few pounds of each other.

Jerry, Thanks for the info. You see, the reason I ask is my engine idles roughly. It kinda has what feels like a stumble. I've checked everything as far as I know. The vac holes to the riser are clear, carb was rebuilt. good compression, over 100, no smoke, clean fuel filter, new fuel pump, new air filter, point, plugs, condenser, coil. I can't seem to figure it out. I appreciate any advice. Thanks.
