The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay Parking Lights...Which Side Up?

I got a bunch of new stuff from Chevy Duty, including new parklamps in the front. I was in such a hurry putting them in that I didn't notice which way the chrome frame goes. Does it slant up or down? Or should I say is the wider edge at the top or the bottom? I tried both ways and they both look good. I felt kinda stupid, but I wanted to know which way was the right one. Some help would be great.

btw. It's my 1948 2-ton

They are wider at the TOP.

I recently help a freind of mine install reproduction park lamps on his 48. They wouldnt fit like the old original lamps. We thought that we had them upside down. We ended up cleaning the old housings and using the new lenses with the new retaining rings. We put them in with the narrower side up and they went in ok. I think the repro housings are not exactly made correctly.

Wider at the bottom than at the top...just like the grill

I just bought a pair from The Truck Shop ($26 ea.) ... there were 2 mounting bolts and I assumed those go on the bottom (?) ... that's why I said "wider at the top."

I'm using these as backup lights on my '54 and I was going to put the wider at the top ... now I think I'll go wider at the bottom!

It really is hard to tell which looks better ... but wider at the bottom DOES make more sense, design-wise.

I know the subject is parking lights....but,I cannot recommend purchasing anything from The Truck Shop. :mad: Details if interested.

What's the "Deal" Paul,With the Truck Shop. I've just resently received a parts book from them. Oh Yeah, wider at the bottom.

What's up, Paul? I've purchased plenty from the Truck Shop and I LIKE 'em! Good quality stuff ... their prices are lowest, but their shipping is a bit more, so they wind up about the same as Chevy Duty.

But I've had nothing but good experiences dealing with them.

My experience with Truck Shop started back in Sept. 2002 when they sent me a catalog. Their prices were good and they seemed to have no problems when I searched for their name in the old truck forums.

In October they sent a flyer offering 10% discount on orders for a short period of time. I figured that 10% would pay for most of the shipping on a $1000.00 order.

When I placed the order for grill, tailgate, front panel, and other parts I was informed that shipping would be $198.00. I questioned the high quote and was told that due to "oversize" and weight that UPS charged that much. I OK'd the order since I had no idea what the weight or size would be.

Upon receiving the parts, it was quite plain that I was being gouged on shipping and the 10% was being made up in spades. On calling the Truck Shop I was given every excuse in the book about "that's what UPS charges". Using the UPS shipping labels on the boxes it became clear that the true cost of shipping was $75.00 or less, including all "oversize" premiums. Probably less because they are a volume shipper and get discounts.

To this, the Truck Shop responded with their version of UPS rates based on boxes bigger and heavier than my shipment. Just another way to get me to go away. I had many telephone calls to them and several letters. Throughout all of this they insisted that they only charge UPS rates with no additional "handling" fee. Please note that none of the items were reboxed from their original manufactures boxes - so no additional cost to the Truck Shop.

All along I insisted on a rebate of the excessive shipping cost. In the end, they issued a rebate check for $98.00 so I only paid about $25 over what is should have cost. This took 4 MONTHS to resolve. All the while the parts sat in their boxes waiting to be returned if necessary.

Bottom line is, they did everything possible to gouge on shipping and string me along to make me go away. If they had said up front that freight will be $75 and "special handling" will be $125 additional I could make my decision and move on - not a company I can recommend.

Adding insult to injury, I pulled the grill out a month ago and it is of such poor quality that park lights won't fit between the bars. Needless to say it is well too late to go back.

Ouch. I understand.

I was ordering stuff from them, thinking their prices were much less than Chevy Duty and all the others ... until I realized (this week) that their shipping costs were much higher. So, I think you're right, Paul -- they're faking us out with their prices.

I'm back to Chevy Duty as my favorite.

Beware of Brothers Trucks -- they play a game with back-orders. Make sure what you're ordering is in stock, first! They had me waiting 2 months on a radio and 3 months on a headlight retainer nut that they wanted $10 for!!! 3 months! And every time I called, they kept me thinking that the parts were coming. Finally, I cancelled my order with them and got what I needed from Chevy Duty -- the headlight retaining nut was $6.
