I'm rewiring my 1941 GMC 1/2 ton with a reproduction stock harness and the only fuse to be found is on the head light switch. Would it be a good idea to put a 20 or 30 amp fuse on the line coming from the starter to the ammeter for some electrical protection?? If so, what amperage? Thanks.

No. The amps are too high for a fuse in that circuit. You coud put a fuseable link where it hooks to the starter.

Thanks wrenchbender. Wire from starter to amp meter appears to be 10 ga., so apparently a 14 ga. fuseable link would be required. I'm wondering what the best way is to protect against a possible electrical fire since the only fuse is at the headlamp switch.
