Hi everyone! This is my first post here on SB. I learned to drive my Dad's Deluxe cab '52 at 8 yrs. old, first sitting on his lap with him doing the clutching and shifting. My first vehicle was a '50 1/2 ton AD (the yr. I was born) in 1966 that I painted Canary yellow. I sold it to pursue "other options" and I've wanted that vehicle back ever since! Last week's end I found a '53 1/2 T. 3100 about 4 miles from our home and bought it! So, now all the planning and scheming begins.
With all of the "Rust Converting products" out there what is the best starting strategy? Sand/Media blast and then Prime or go with a Rust Convereter product and move on? I understand that one would want to knock all of the loose stuff off of everywhere, but are the RC products anywhere near as good as the sellers say they are?

The RC's are substitutes for media blasting. During my build I've tried it all and only recently borrowed a 40lb blast tank from a friend to clean the road tar out of the fender that nothing, and I mean nothing else would get out. Nor would paint stick to it neither Rustoleum, Chassi Saver OR Epoxy primer, which is why I was looking for a blaster. I want the paint to stick! I'm convinsed it's Number 1.

Sand blast and put on a coat of expoxy primer and on the chassis and various other places use POR15,

THANKS for the honest answers. It as I suspected...ya still gotta get it right before you move forward. Thanks also for the POR suggestion. I need to read up more on that. I'd rather spend $200 a gallon for the right base coat that skimp on that and end up with flaking paint later!
