Hey,
recently the rubber bushing between my steering box and steering shaft busted,and now my steering is pretty sloppy. Where would i go to find a new rubber bushing not sure if its original or the P.O. just jimmy rigged it to work.
My second question is the rubber bushing is held into the shaft via what looks like allen bolts and something that looks like a smooth cap that the allen tightens into.does anyone have info on these types of caps and how to get them off easier?
the trucks a 64 chevy 4x4 3/4ton.

You don't take it apart, so don't worry about the smooth Allen looking things, I imagine that you could pick up a replacement at just about any auto parts store, although they may have to order it,

A rag joint refers to certain flexible joints (flexure bearings) found on automobiles and other machines. They are typically found on steering shafts that connect the steering wheel to the steering gear input shaft, usually at the steering gear end. They provide a small amount of flex for a steering shaft within a few degrees of the same plane as the steering gear input shaft. It also provides some damping of vibration coming from the steering system, providing some isolation for the steering wheel.


Yep thats what it's called a Rag joint, and I thought that was just mechanic lingo,

Thanks for all the information looks like i could probably just cut the allens off since the new bushing comes with all new bolts.

There are new complete ones available at the specialty supliers. You can get repair kits at any parts store. It comes with new hardware. There are 2 dif. sizes. Make sure you know the diameter.
