Looking for hubcaps for a 54 with 16" original wheels. Don't know if I want original caps or "moons". The question is what size do I ask for? Do I take a measurment from the outside of the clips or the raised area of the wheel, between the clips and the lugs.

I wouldn't worry about size, rather the application. Stock wheel caps are readily available. Try Jim Carter, LMC, etc. Most older wheels were made to standard sizes and use similar hubcaps...my '40 Chevy will fit my '40 Ford!

Great thing about these 6 lug wheels/caps is that all the caps will interchange as long as it was held on with clips. and all 6 lug rims will interchange with car or trucks. Ran a nice set of 57 pickup rims on my 47 coupe in the past with the 47 caps.
