Don't 4WD S-10's have about the right width axle, 6 bolt pattern, 2WD S-10's have a slightly narrower tread.

All S-10's are 5-bolt, whether 4WD or 2WD.

This is good to hear as I am currently stripping a 95 S10 for parts . I was planing to use the 4.3 V6 and T5 tranny so perhaps I will retain the rearend as well .

YES!! keep the rear and go to jc whitney for the 1 3/4 spring perches, they get welded 4 1/8 in. from the backing plates and you can use you're original springs....i just finished doing that to my 46 1/2 ton i have pics, I even lowered mine by removing 4 leaves from the bottom of the springs and cutting them down and installing them on top of the spring ....i just tore out my torque tube drive and put a t-5 in mine with a custom made driveshaft (cut down 79 olds cutlas driveshaft)...make sure you use the plates from the s-10 for the u bolts on the rear,i have pics to checkout
