Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 117 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 117 | I have a 283 with duel exhaust and a two barrel rodchester carb. It does fine idiling and reving up but once on the road it acts like it is not getting enough fuel. I have electronic ignition, new gas tank sending unit, new carb fuel lines and fuel filter. I took the carb apart and it looked fine nothing stoped up or anything. I have the timing set on about 10 degrees Any ideas? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 117 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 117 | Sorry I put this in the wrong location | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 117 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 117 | Thanks I fix the problem this morning. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 45 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 45 | I had similar symptoms due to a bad coil once. Also, is the fuel pump ok? Lastly, 10 degrees advance may be a little high. You could try backing it down a little and see how it reacts. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 565 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 565 | Thanks I fix the problem this morning. What was it?

I unhooked the spark advance then set the timing which was very slow.I had to plug the advance because there was not a timed port on the carb. It ran like a scalled dog after that. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 434 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 434 | Well there you have it. I was going to suggest a clogged air cleaner since tonight I was mowin my yard and the Briggs & Stratton would run then miss, run then miss. When it would miss it would belch black smoke so I knew it was rich. I thought it was the governor, because it would tend to rev down and miss under load. Put a new spark plug in it (other one was pretty black, confirming running rich thing) and didn't help. Since I had my GM Goodwrench Service Plus shirt on, I decided not to let it kick my butt. Pulled the air cleaner off and it was pretty caked up with dirt and debris on the foam element. Scraped it off with my pocket knife and she ran like a scalded dog. Good thing I had my shirt on. Thought about this thread and just had to check. Glad you got it going.
