Last night we hung the drivers door on the 64- in anticipation of getting outer body panels on and aligned for final fit/ bodywork and paint- I have new hinges on the drivers door- as the old ones were pretty loose and causing fits with the latching when we first received the truck-
So- new hinges in and the door swings nicely now- but if we adjust to where panels line up - the top of the window frame sticks out past the body of the cab by 1/4" we installed the new weatherstripping ( not glued in yet) and I and thinking it's a bit too wide or stiff or thick or something- because if we remove the stripping the door closes ok- (I have door latch issues but we are looking for a replacement latch assembly)
In any case- will this weatherstripping compress more over time and allow the door to sit flush? Passenger side is next and I am anxious to see if the weatherstripping is going to be an issue on that side- any thoughts?

i installed new weatherstripping on both my 63 and 64 and it was a tighter fit after that, and yes it did compress a little after a while. but it was quite a change from the old weatherstipping.

Hoggyrubber,

Did the window frames on your doors kinda stick out a bit from being flush with the body until the gaskets compressed a bit over time? with gaskets on my door sticks out farthetr than I think it should...

I had the same problem on my '65 after replacing the hinges and seals. After countless tries and running out of family memebers, freinds, strangers, and anyone else that I could get to help hold the door while I made slight adjustment, I took it to a body shop that specializes in old cars. The owner chuckled and said they changed the foam forumla years ago and the seals were too hard. He claimed only a few companies were using the original formula. For $75 he replaced the seals and adjusted the doors. They look factory fresh.

yes it did cause the doors to stick out a little. and it put a little pressure on the latch too while it was shut. they have compressed some over the last few years. never as good as it was new, but i'm no professional anyway.

I ran into the same thing, bought another brand of rubber and it's great now.

IIRC, it was from Classic Parts of America.

I think I might just get a new set of weatherstripping from Classic Parts of America- IIRC- we have to just about slam the doors for them to close and the drivers door is sticking too far out- I'm done trying to adjust the doors to fit right ( well- maybe one more try) only to have the door stick out too far... thank you for the heads up on the other rubber source!
