Have drove it around my little town a fair bit and decided to try a secondary highway! Top end of 45 mph! It has the 4.56 gears and 4 speed trans. Transfer case is not installed as the PO installed (cobbled) the 4.56 rearend and made a two wheel drive. when I get teh correct rear end (3.90) installed, w/transfer case(Rockwell) will/should I expect improvement? I really hope so! | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | the 4.56 was the 3/4T, 3.90 gears will help a lot, my 58 w/ 283 and 3.90 rear will cruise at 65-70 comfortably [if noisy].... it's a 4x4? is the front axle ratio stock?

I have no idea why the PO pulled the rear axle assembly and installed the 4.56! He apparrently pulled the transfer case and driveshafts at the same time as they were in the pickup box. Like I stated, he made a two wheel drive, sorta! Sounds like getting the correct rear axle under the truck will definatly help! Thanks Bill! | | |
