For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2012 Posts: 37 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2012 Posts: 37 | I purchased a 1949 "parts truck" that happens to run, drive, and in every way acts as a complete vehicle. Only problem is, it didn't come with registration or a title.
I was told it's a simple matter to obtain a "Bonded Title" in my state that requires some research, some paperwork, and inspection for modern safety devices and other factors. Simple? Maybe not so much...
I have seen advertised on other sites, private citizens selling titles for specific year/model vehicles as "historical documents" for as little as $150. I'm assuming they are somehow able to convert them into legitimate titles in their respective states with little or no issues.
I'm curious to know how this is accomplished and if anyone here has availed themselves of acquiring paperwork this way to make their truck "legal". It appears to be cheaper and more direct than required by the state, to do it that way.
Anyone with any experience?

Tring to use a title for a different vehicle like that is not legal, and can get one into some very serious trouble, especially if the vehicle is later sold. To be legal, you'll have to get a new title issued by the state dmv.

After all, they are the ones that will have to issue/approve it in the end. And with 50 different states there are 50 different sets of requirements/standards. Start there. Could save you a lot of grief and money. Scams are everywhere for everything.

HMMMmmm.......I'll just bet they're working together with the Title and document sellers.
Yeah, I just completed the paperwork for the state and will be sending it in tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

I would'nt hesitate to do it again. I got a free truck because the owners didnt want to deal with it, Scott | | |
