Let me first apologize for the length, but I wanted to capture the REAL first start and the attempts leading up to it.

The video pretty much sums up my excitement - and yes, that's a Stovebolt.com shirt I put on for the big event. I hope you enjoy watching this 235 that I picked up all in parts coming alive for the first time in over 50 years!

Liked that. I know you enjoyed doing it and that is the main thing. I think it would have started a lot quicker if your battery was a little better.

Battery was fully charged! As far as I know, that's the speed of a 6V crank, my old 216 started at that speed too.

Yes - it's the same 235 you came out and saw with me last July!

I too am glad to here it run!
I was just saying to my self don't let it run to long without water.

That length that you saw it run there was the extent w/o water. I installed the rad after that and really played around.

Dave, I ended up with a leak on one of the two bolts that only attach the relocation plate to the pump. Had to remove the pump to load up on sealant under the nuts - no leaks now!

Good deal! I have never had any leak problems there, but I have been asked about that as a possibility lately.

The cranking speed sounded OK, if you were using standard jumper cables.

That moment when you threw your hands up is how I imagine I'll feel. Like the scene in Cast Away when Tom Hanks yells "I, HAVE MADE FIRE!" with his hands in the air.

Fantastic stuff. Did you make that engine test stand yourself or buy it? I'm thinking I might weld one like that up while I'm waiting on my crankshaft to get fixed and that looks like a design I'll go with.

Thanks Van - No I didn't make that engine stand, in Canada we have a chain of stores called Princess Auto which I imagine is the same as your Harbour Freight. It was 1/2 price for $40. Although I took a quick look on the harbor freight website and couldn't find one.

I was using the original cables from the truck. Although prior to this video I had cranked it with the ignition off for a bit to fill the fuel pump, it was a BIT faster in the beginning.

Congrats Mark!! I laughed too when you got that big grin on your face. Been there myself and it does feel good. ;>)

Thanks Stranger, JeffL - I've watched it a few dozen times now, even though I can go out to the garage and fire it in person! I'm glad my wife humored me and recorded it, especially since she's put up with so much of my time in the garage!
