Put the battery on a trickle charger and had the generator tested and rebuilt. Reinstalled everything but still not seeing any positive results on the guage. When I tap on the regulator I see the guage jump to the charge side in time with my tapping. Do I need a new regulator? I read through the manual last night but really didn't find a black and white answer.

A little rust can screw them up. Check the mounting screws of the regulator also it needs a good ground to work. Remember to disconnect the battery first the red wire is live. You don't need a fire.
if it dosen't need fixed, break it

Cost $5.00 to find out the volt reg was bad. Most older shops can do this. | | |

The educated test results were that the regulator had shorted out. So a new one has been installed. Never new those 6 volt headlight could be so bright.
