can somebody tell me what or if there are any 5 lug hubs from early cars to fit the front of my 46 1/2ton to change it over from 6 lug?

If you stay with Huck brakes you need 1949-50 passenger car hubs and drums. If you change over to Bendix brakes you need 1951-54.

so if i find a 51-54 chevy car drums, they'll fit? or do I have to change the spindles too?

Your spindles will work fine.
The only change in the spindles, when Chev went to Bendix, was to increase the size of the two bottom bolt holes.
You will need backing plates from a 1951-59 1/2 ton.

Someone will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you can use all the "stuff" from a '51-'54 donor car: backing plates, bolts, spacers, hubs, and drums.

I have never used passenger car backing plates for this conversion.
I know the trucks will work.
My parts book shows different backing plates for pass and truck.

so I have to look for 51-59 1/2 ton hubs, drums, and backing plates...is that correct? just trying to get it straight before i go trudging thru the mud at the junkyards here, its been raining alot

If going with Bendix you need 1951-59 1/2 ton backing plates and 1951-54 pass hubs and drums.
If staying with Huck then you only need the 1949-50 hubs and drums, you use your old backing plates.

You can use the car backing plates, but you have to drill a hole for the bottom mount to mount the backing plate to the two bottom holes on the spindle knuckle. If you do, you can use a large washer to cover the car holes in the backing plate, since they are close to the holes you will drill, and that will cover and seal the original car holes.
