So I have to find another 66 p/u and weld in a new piece, yes he really did make a mess. Anyway, when he installed the stereo, he wired it directly to the battery, which I assume is not the correct route, since I can never shut the thing off! Im not much into electrical things but I was hoping someone can inform me of the correct procedure of wiring this. Of course I will have to fix this other mess first.
One other question, the turn signals work but will not release and shut off after I make a turn. Do I need new innards or maybe just some wd 40? thanks for any help you can supply.

Im not sure what you mean when you say coming off the load side, can you elaborate on that item? Thanks for your help on the radio and turn signals, Ill give that a try tomorrow.

I had to do this exact repair on my daily beater Astrovan awhile back. Pull the steering wheel off, under it there will be a plate covering the innards of the column. A special tool is needed to push the plate down, and then you remove a c-clip from the steering shaft with lock ring pliers. Remove the holding tool, lift the plate off, and voila! you have access to the workings of your turn signals! As for the stereo, look for terminals on the fuse panel marked "BATT" (battery +) and "ACCY" (accessory). The battery one is for clock/station preset memory, and the accessory terminal to run the radio when vehicle ignition is in run or accessory position. Hoping this helps and wasn't too confusing. Usually though, the radio will require a 4 amp or higher fuse for the power wire to the radio, and a 1 amp for the memory wire. That is what mine is anyway. If your stereo has a sticker on the bottom of it, it usually says what the amperage of the fuse has to be.

This is my power source for the radio. I did run the memory wire straight to the batt.(with a fuseable link included with cd radio) I hid the radio in the glovebox, but I would like to mount it under the dash underneith the stock radio, for easier access. On the turnsignal there is a few things that would cause 60-66 trucks turnsignal not to cancel. The turnsignal cancelor, lubrication, or is binding. On the cut out in the dash, I would replace the section that is "butchered". On my 62' the PO cut out the bottom section, and peeled back the sides like a sardaine can. I now have the stock am radio in, but the scars of the hacking are still there. Chevyboy62

I hooked up the power to the fuse box like you guys said. But..... There must be a mem. wire I need to hook up cause now every time I shut off the ignition, the settings disappear. Would anybody know which color wire that would be or do I just troubleshoot, which for me, could be big trouble!! Haven't had a chance to mess with the turn signals yet but I assume I need to get the steering wheel off to get to the guts of the turn signals.
One last thing, I would like to get some good wiring items, like connectors to crimp, inline fuses, wire, and anything else I might need. Where can I get these types of items either locally, or through mail order. The Eastwood co. comes to mind but Im sure there are other places you guys can recommend. Thanks all. Steve.

I only use 3M connectors, and that is where I usually buy them. Of course, the best way to splice isn't a butt-crimp connector, but solder and heat-shrink tubing.

Also whats the name of it. There should be a wire diagram on either the top, or on the bottom. The memory wire is yellow on my cd player.(JVC)

Red is hot to the ignition. This will cut it off when you turn your key off. Yellow is to the battery with an inline fuse. This is for your pre-set stations and clock so you don't lose it. Speaker wires: white solid and white/black stripe is left front speaker. Grey and Grey/black stripe is right front speaker. The other two I didn't connect. Hope this helps. BTW I installed the radio in the glove box. Had to cut an opening in the rear of the box, slipped the radio thru it, just enough to close the box cover. Looks real good cuz I didn't lose the stock appearance of the dash and I can have the fm & cd music to cruise with.
