Not sure if anyone is familiar with California. I had a choice: register it and insure it as a Historic Vehicle, and drive whenever there's a parade. Or keep Year of Manufacture plates, and insure it at the rates of a 'big rig' working dump truck. Is there a way to insure it with the YoM plates, and insure it for about 5000 miles a year, make a few dump runs, landscape runs (sod, sand, etc) Are there any options? I've tried Hagerty, but since I have YoM commercial plates, they won't do it JC Taylor says "parade use".... Any ideas???

I really don't want to give up the year of manufacture plates....but if that's what it takes!

I went to Progressive for my 1952 GMC 454-30 3 ton flatbed dump.
Cost was $397.00 for 6 months PL & PD.
California now requires a $750,000 liability on vehicles with a GVW of 10,000lbs or more for commercial plates.
Geico was similar price but, requires a commercial drivers license.

you need to ask yourself this, do i want an antique dump truck that i can haul with or do i want a dump truck that i can take to antique truck shows/parades?
i have a 51 2 ton that i chose to make a dump truck that i take to truck shows. there is a big difference in what it costs me vs how much i use the truck but i still chose the more expensive option. | | |
