Hi, my name is morgan, I am 26. I am from a small hick town in SASKATCHEWAN CANADA. I am married and have two daughters. I am welding apprentice, work on my friends farm during seeding and harvest. I recently bought the equipment to do mobile tractor tire repairs.
So I needed a new truck that would handle the weight of my tools, welder and up to 200 gallons of calcium chloride to fill tractor tires with for traction.
I had recently fallen in love with my friends dads 64 1 ton and thought I would look for one similar. Well I found our local towns old firetruck parked at a farm still in good condition. It's either a 58 or 59, not sure, did not run the serial number. But it seemed to be in good shape and was running 5 years ago, had a new tank put in ten years ago and 2 new tires as well. So I bought her for $500, currently in the middle of seeding crops so don't have time to pick her up yet.
I will be building a new flat deck so I can mount my homemade portable welder, tool boxes, and tires.
Morgan, welcome to the Stovebolt. I think you will find this site a great place for all your truck needs. There are a lot of us here that are that are old truck crazy!
I see that your truck appears to be really solid. I am guessing that they don't use a lot of salt on the roads where you are. That is not the case in Ontario and so truck projects usually come with a lot of rust!
Morgan,that's a nice looking truck but I noticed someone put a big truck bumper on it.I like the look but I would take a section out of each end and shorten it.That's a real knee knocker the way it is.

Ya that big bumper needs to be shaved. As for the salt, it was a fire truck all its life, so it was always washed after it was taken out. So it was very little rust on it. I did notice that the drivers door "top" hinge is a little buggered. That and the seat are about the worst of it.
Basically I will get her mechanically sound, build my flat deck, mount my equipment, take off the old fire dept logo and get a new one painted on....made to look old. Might just leave the body and paint, or do it at a later time......this truck will actually be used as a work truck, like it was orgionally intended for. I can't wait!
Finally got her home today. Pulled the flatdeck off, removed all of the angle iron mounts that were welded to the frame to hold the deck down. Wow someone did not know how to weld ahahahaha.......I ground half of the bead off of one side of each angle iron.....hit it with a one pound hammer and cracked that weld, then took a big pipe wrench and twisted the angle irno side ways thus removing the pieces. Gotta love being able to crack a weld with a wrench ahaha.
Pulled the carb off, pretty clean inside, gaskets are good. Will wash the sediment out of the bowl.
Also took the mouse nests out, pulled the seat, just gotta buy a broom to clean the floor as my wife would kill me if I used hers to sweep it out.
So far so good, glad to finally have it on my property,
Sounds good, oil them hinges up before you use them to much, poke some rags in the seat and cover it with a horse blanket cover and go for a ride LOL. Seriously that is a good find and should look good with all the equiptment on it.
got a flat deck for it, cleaned it up a little bit, mounted it, plated the sides and cut the corners up front, started on a headache rack, mounted my new seat, had to remove the fuel tank to fit it in properly. Just have wiring and tie rod ends to do now, then I will be out doing mobile tire repairs in my small farming community
Got my welder with air compressor on, 30 gallon air tank, put a 15 gallon saddle fuel tank on it,some tool boxes, and the best addition was a new 2n1/4 exhaust to a 3" stack! She sounds mean as heck and even like a small block diesel. I think Screamin Jimmy will be an appropriate name for it.
