on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 124 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 124 | I am thinking of rebuilding the 3 speed transmission on my '59 1/2 ton Apache. Where can rebuild kits, seals, and gears be found. I did some searching on the web and didn't have a lot of luck. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot, Gene

Here's a couple of places that you might also check with; http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cat...kits/muncie_3_speed_ld_overhaul_kit.htmlhttp://www.mackstrans.com/MuncieID.htmlYou mention gears, are yours damaged? If so, you might consider hunting another transmission, if only to strip for parts. The SM318 is very common, and can be picked up fairly cheap at the swapmeets. Or better yet, look for the SM319 variant, with has a Borg-Warner overdrive. It's a bolt in swap if you can find either the Truck or the '55-'57 Passenger version. I see them fairly often in the $100-$150 range. Both transmission are very easy to service.

Some of your transmission parts will be on page 118. If you end up needing gears or housing parts, I think you'll be limited to buying good used parts. I rebuilt the transfer case on a 1963 K10 (I should've never sold)and ended up buying a donor Xfer case for gears etc. All other parts were either listed or I found a part number on them. Watts, OK is kinda in the sticks according to Mapquest but you can probably find a good bearing supplier in Tulsa. A good micrometer will help you locate all the parts you may need. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | If you are patient, place a "saved search" on eBay. I have been surprised to see how many different NOS 40s-50s 3-speed transmission parts show up regularly on eBay.

I have 2 real good trans. like that for sale. $50 each. I can send any parts of one you want or come to K.C. & pick one up. George They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though.
