The catalog and the order form indicate the correct part was shipped. I am confused as it does not seem to match to the existint harness, and after several hours with the wiring diagram, looking at the truck, looking at the looking at the directions and tracing wires witht the voltmeter I am no better off.
Does anyone have experience with this harness? Number EL126.
My truck has the harness routed through the engine bay on the driver's side. Is this typical? | | |
#84843 05/27/2003 2:48 AM | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | Martin - these trucks had mosta the wiring come out the drivers side of the firewall, branch off to the regulator, and run up the inner fender to the generator, horn and lights - if yer truck is way different than the harness ya got, maybe it was "jury-rigged" long ago when the originals were no longer available, and not yet being repro'd - or maybe GMC was a bit different than Chev [which is what the harness will be for, tho it worked on my 46 GMC] - if the layout seems to cover the under-dash stuff and reaches everything under the hood, make it work! if it really is waaaay off, maybe they accidently packaged up a harness for a much later truck . . . give'em a call - and let'em know yer a stovebolt.com custie that expects great stuff!!  - and welcome to the garage, where yu'll find the answer to all yer old bolt questions - Rob the kook will know if the GMC wiring is different than Chev . . . The two wires to it come out of the main harness and then disappear into another harness, so it's very hard to track. The fuse box doesn't show up in the wiring diagrams or the new harness instruction sheet. Any ideas what the fuses are for (lighting, ignition, generator)?
And welcome to the board, Martin! I'll confirm what Squeeze says. Let us know how it comes out as I've got the same harness from American Classics that I hope will be a no-brainer to install (ha ha ha, yeah, I know better).
Squeeze, thanks to you and Jeff for answering my question about the front axle alignment. Turned out that the leaf spring is broken at the shackle. It was so obvious that I felt like an idiot and deleted the post.
