Hey guys! I'm closing in on finishing my restoration project (49 GMC 1 ton flat bed dump body).

I have a friend that is a glass installer, and can cut the flat glass for my cab. I have the "vent window" version. I am wondering if anyone might can advise me where I can get my hands on a set of templates for the windsheild (two piece), rear cab and door glass?

If anybody finds glass templates, I would like to get a scan of the template. I will put it up on my web site, The gasket exchange.

Britcon, as my teenage daughter would say... "Ya DUH!!!"

Thanks for diagnosing my brain cramp and suggesting I check our old faithful - Jim Carter's Truck Parts! Yep,they got'em!
Here's the entry in their catalog, which resides by the way, on my hard drive.
Should have checked there first!!

Thanks!

I'm surprised you could find anything on Carter's new site.

Glad you did.

Woo,

I know what you mean! I don't particularly like the new website layout either.

I found the best thing to do is download their free .PDF catelog. You can save it to your hard drive and search it much easier!

Glad I'm not the only one with a beef about that website. Glad you found your templates too.

There's a truck parts place up here in Alberta that sells the glass already cut. Seems like a cheaper and easier way to go for my purposes, so I'm getting my glass from him.

Kurt,
Great Idea with the Gasket Exchange web site!

I found this searching for body panel patterns. I have a relationship with a sheetmetal shop and I could get a flat floor cut on a laser for well below the $500-600 that mail order catalogues want.... It wont look original but I don't care as I'm making a driver and wont be crawling underneath that often ( I hope :))
Maybe you can expand the site to other items we could use patterns on? carpets? sheetmetal? door trim panels? The infamous poor fitting inner cowl comes to mind.. might not be bad to make it out of three pieces of flat sheet stock...

I may be able to contribute some by converting dimensioned scans into an autocad format that can be used by plasma cutters and other automated cutting machines.

Tj,

Absolutely, the gasketexchange is intended to be a resource for all. It will become more useful as more folks contribute.I just got the scans for the windshield and door glass from Mr. Lang. I expect to have them up sometime in July. (I'm going on vacation)

Autocad format would be great with a companion PDF.

Actually,
It was so simple, I went ahead and added the glass templates. Here is a link:

The foor has ribs and details for a reason, strength. A flat floor is likely to be a big oil can bottom.

I would likely either up the thickness, add some reinforcement channels or a combination. i could make channels and tab it into the floor. all cut off the laser so it fits up perfect. channel is easy enough.... just two hits on the press brake. i could even make it out of stainless so i don't have t worry about moisture in the channels.

i could even make some tooling to form beads if i really wanted but i dont know if its worth it...

I bought a cab some fool had put a flat floor in with channel iron reinforcement. The channel iron hits the frame keeping the cab off the mounts. The cab is worthless. Maybe after you ruin yours you can screw somebody with it like he did me.

woah now!

First of all, let's not hijack this thread.

Second- How about we assume that I'm not stupid enough to design something that will interfere to other parts on the truck... If there are reinforcement beads now, obviously there is space to add them whether a separate piece or not.

Third- Maybe we can go out on a limb and not automatically reflect your own bad experience on other respectful and honest members of our community. The vast majority of our members, myself included, would never sell something intentionally misrepresenting the item and screwing the buyer.

Unfortunately, there are always some bad eggs and i'm sorry you where wronged, but lets be optimists and figure this is the exception within our community and not the rule.
