Anyone running a Hurst 3 speed shifter on the floor? I'm thinking about putting one in my 49 3600 with a later three speed (SM318).

I'm wondering about length of shifter and clearing the bench. Apparently they made these up to 18" long..

Any thoughts appreciated. I may even stick with column shift. Just looking at options.

I think the 18" should be great, had one in my 46 for a while. That was with a saginaw 4 speed, had to modify the mount to the trans and shorten the rods to move it forward and clear the seat.
Since that trany I've stepped up to the S-10 T-5, comes with it's own shifter which is centered in the truck and with the old narrow 46 it made a huge improvement.

Nice looking 46 by the way. The old man had one - paid $750 for it after trading in a 51 sedan delivery many moons ago.

I just went down to measure mine, 21" to the Hurst "T" handle, same hight as my thigh, extremely comfortable. I didn't know if I'd care for a "T" handle but I love it on my dd only vehicle '49 1/2 ton.

It's a B+M shifter, on a '62 3sp+od trans. with non-synchro first.

I made my own 'up-over-up' to center the shifter in the floor on a home-made bracket.

I had to bend the shift rods in order to clear the solenoid. I also made my own shifter dogs to shorten the overall throw and stick welded them to the trans.

Very nice..I'm planning to put a 55-57 3 speed with OD in the 49 3600 with 4:10 rear..I managed to find a guy with a Hurst GM 55-57OD mounting kit NOS and a 18" shifter - the linkage is pre-bent on the kit and the brackets are designed to clear the solenoid.

I gotta fix the OD, a few parts are busted on it. A spare parts tranny would probably be best. And I need a kickdown switch. Worth the trouble tho I think - these trannys are pretty neat.

I have an extra kickdown switch if you need it.
