on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 255 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 255 | Got my back up light mounted (Guide B-31), and a push/pull switch mounted to dash. Should I put a fuse in the circuit - and where (in the "hot" wire to switch, or between switch and lamp)? If a fuse is needed, what size or rating. I have a 6 volt system. Thanks in advance. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | the factory accessory backup lites take a 9a fuse, so I'd think that'd be advisable - should go in the supply wire before the switch

Thanks again. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,760 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,760 | A fuse needs to be able to carry enough current to power whatever item is being operated, and have a low enough capacity to protect the wire in case of a short. The bigger the wire, the bigger the fuse can be. A 16 gauge wire should have a 10 amp or smaller fuse, while a #12 wire can go up to a 15 amp, 20-25 amp for a #10, etc. Jerry
