I have a 1951 Chevy 3100 5 window all original including 6 volt electrical system. In my infinite wisdom i purchased LED tail lights that are obviously 12 volt. Is there a 6 to 12 volt converter that i can install to get these to work or is there 6 volt LED tail lights i can purchase? Or should I just not travel at night.

Found these 6v LED. Most of the 12v LEDs will work on 6 volts they won't be as bright as if you had 12v running to it but it will be brighter than a 12v "standard" bulb and a bunch brighter that a 6v bulb. you might try it and see if you like it.

The 6v LEDs I've found are little brighter than the incandescent bulbs they replace. There's a way to get 12v light out of your housing using available 6v bulbs. I submitted a tech tip to Ned that he's vetting now and should be up for review shortly. It's actually pretty simple. It involves putting a slight bend in the bulb bracket so you can run a #81 bulb for the tail light and an #1129 for the brake. The need for the bend is because the #1129 is much larger and won't clear the housing in the upper socket or the lens in the lower. The #81 is the same size as the stock #63 but twice the candle power.

Keep in mind that my modern truck has a mirrored reflector and my '38 6v is a much smaller housing and does not have a mirrored reflector.

I have a 52 Chevy 3100 that is still 6 volt. I purchased some LED tail lights from Classicparts.com:

They assured me these would work with 6 or 12 volts. But on my truck, the only way I could tell they were on was to put my eyeball up to the tail light. Then I discovered you can buy 6-to-12 volt converters. So I installed two of those (one for the brake light wire, and one for the tail light wire). That helped a lot. I got them from Jim Carter:

Can incandescent bulbs fit into a LED light fixture?
I will be installing light fixtures into my office with LED bulbs...if i wanted to, can i replace the bulbs with incandescent ones?

On cars and trucks the LEDs are made to work in the old style incandescent sockets. I have no clue about structure fixtures. I'd recommend calling an electrician.
