I just purchased another GMC truck, this time it's a Big Bolt, 1952 GMC 454-30 (179in wheel base)flatbed dump truck, bed is 96in x 180in. and in excellent shape. Has 302 motor, 5 speed clark gear box and 2 speed electric shift rear axle. 9.00x20 tires in good shape. New battery (6v) Do not know yet if gearbox is 5th direct or 5th gear OD :? It does run and is drivable, last registered in 2005, I got burned on price $800.00 cash. Last used on farm 2010 to haul hay. Dump box works, no power steering Will send pix soon. Can't wait for the pictures......What are your plans for the truck? | | | | Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 268 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 268 | I needed a larger truck to tow my trailer and eqipment around on.
I built a heavy duty 22 foot, 2 axle flat trailer to haul my 1947 Oliver HG-42 OC3 bulldozer and my 1942 Ford 2N loader around. I just wanted to stay with older equipment of the same time period.
In other words toys;) and I could use a dump truck around my place now and then...
I will restore the truck, the dash is a mess. The rest I will know more next week when I drive the truck home.

the truck has a 302 engine with one barrel carb setting on top of a governor. I am going to remove/replace the single intake manifold with a 2 barrel manifold and carb, also replace the cam and timing gears and distributor. Have the radiator recored and if the gear box is not and 5 speed OD trans, well, replace it too, I have couple sitting in a shed. If the head is not a large-port head I will replace that also.
But first I just want to drive it for awhile:0

The tag has all your trucks spec'd eng., trans., axles, info. stamped on it. It will either say 5 spd. DD, or 5 spd. OD. I own a 1952 GMC F473-30, COE. | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 446 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 446 | Hey, I own a 1952 Oliver OC-3 crawler....Just bought it a couple of months ago. I'm looking for a flatbed trailer to haul it over to my property in Easter Oregon to do some prep work for a new shop I'm building. I will probably haul it behind my 1966 C60 two ton, although I don't need such a big truck to haul it, LOL......So, what does the "HG-42" stand for on your '47 Oliver? | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | I'm sure all modern 302's have the large intake ports; when I got my '53 fire truck w/ 302, after I installed a 'brownie,' it wass still sort of gutless, milled the head .060", wow, what a difference, still could use Regular fuel. An economical way to get a more efficient engine.
'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires. '47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle. '54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed. '55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

Can not put it on the road yet... no brakes. The plate in glove box says. The trans is a CLARK 205V, with CLARK front axle and EATON (electric 2 speed) Rear axle with 6.50 - 9.04 ratio. . Had to replace the points and coil one battery cable. Still 6 volt system with positive ground. Someone put the battery in backwards, killed the coil. Put a see through fuel filter in fuel line between fuel pump and carb. OPPS I was wrong about carb... it is a 2 barrel. Dump bed works great. Started replacing the ignition wires. Temp gauge and oil pressure gauge work. So biggest problem now is the brakes. Been watching other chats about shift patterns. Mine says 1L-1H/2L-2H/3L-3H/4L-5L/4H-5H. Shift pattern looks to be: 2 4 R | | | - N - | | | 3 5 1 I think that is right. Picture to come... Added Photos: http://s1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh594/GMCPic/
