Has anyone used this set-up?

What will you be using it in/on?

This is the story. I should be getting my 235 from the mechanic next month and am investigating the convertion of 6 volts to 12 volts in my 48 3100. My headlights are extremely dull and I am not sure if a bad battery is the cause and if the change would be best. I don't have any extras on the truck. Just a normal truck. I like the 6 volt system - just not dull headlights.
I need help

Most of the light goes out the back of the bulb instead of being reflected and focused through the lens. Also, the voltage regulator needs to be adjusted for a terminal voltage of 7.5 volts at the battery with the engine running at fast idle. There's nothing wrong with a 6 volt system if the connections are clean and tight, and the regulator is adjusted correctly. Jerry

If your bulbs are the old incadescent type, they will be dim from use and age. You may just want to buy some new ones and try them out. I beleive all the new replacement sealed beam bulbs are halogene type and will be much brighter.
I recently did this on my 6v. truck and was amazed at how much brighter the new lamps were.

I think I bought a Wagoner H6006. H being for Halogen.
If you want really bright headlights, you can replace the whole fixture with an aftermarket halogen 6v. setup. Expensive. I think Chevy of the 40's sells them.

I am not sure if CarQuest is in this area. I will have to check with Autozone, NAPA, and O'Reilly.
Thanks

Add a couple of relays and you will have a great kit for very bright lights. On all the H4 conversions I have done I make sure there are good dedicated grounds for each headlight.

I received a pair yesterday, They are Bosch but they are marked "motorcycle". This most likely does not matter in most states, but be aware of this, Oh yes, the lenses are made for right-side of the road driving. I'll report on the installation (and the comparative brightness relative to an H6006 bulb) sometime this summer. My 1954s have good grounds but I will double-check them. It will be interesting to see the Ammeter reading at idle when the lights are on (even on low - high-beam will be more interesting). | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 2,254 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 2,254 | On the NAPA website they show the:
Remanufactured Alternator - RAY 2134004 $55.57
Alternator Bracket - BK 7355238 $15.69
Not bad price for switch from a generator to alternator
