One bolts into the drivers side and holds the shaft in place. Remove that and the shaft should slide free. There should be an identical plug on the passenger side of the transmission that comes out, the end of the speed shaft sits inside the center of it. I don't know if you have to unbolt that part on the passenger side. It looks just like a big bolt head. That should fix it, but as 3B mentions, I can't remember if it needs to come out or not to pull the yoke! In either case, I think you need to use a puller. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | The bolts that hold the rear seal on need to be removed. The seal comes off with the yoke

The yoke will not come off unless the seal is unbolted. It has been quite a while since I did this. The shop manual says the hole rear housing needs to come off, Shop Manual Jeff, do you have an open drive or torque tube? it makes a difference.

I think were thinking of two different things??? You only need to remove the retainer to press the old seal out from the backside.
The seal for the yoke is pressed into the rear housing/retainer, than the yoke with speedometer drive gear slides onto the output shaft of the tranny, one bolt and thick washer and your done.
Marv, maybe you should pull the back of the tranny off to see what's going on. I can't remember that needing to be done, but who knows?
