Now that I have put a few hundred miles on my truck (57 350/ T5) I am frustrated with the transmission. Using the search function, I have visited the 5speeds and thegearbox websites, but my question remains: what are the gear ratios of the individual gears in my trans? I know first is about 4:1, fourth is 1:1, and fifth is about .78 : 1. Is there a website that might give all gear ratios based on the tailshaft tag number?

The engine has fantastic low-end torque, and the easiest shift sequence is 1-3-5. I would like to replace the transmission, but I don't wish to replace it with a different box but the same gears.

What is your final drive ratio, you may want to change to something lower than what you have vs the trans

I ran a 3:42 rear with an SBC in a half ton for a while, great gears for general use. A little light pulling a large load, so acceleration was not the greatest up a grade.

Just came from Mongos Garage site and the PDF that he has posted lists two hundred fifty different tag numbers for the T5. That is unbelievable that they produced them in that many different configurations. It looks like finding one with the exact gear ratio,shifter and speedo that your looking for would be next to impossable.
Was the T5 made under the GM name or Muncie or Saganaw or some other????

All the T-5's from S10's or even an Astrovan have too low of a first gear for anything but a stock 216 or a truck used to pull some weight.
The Camaro V-8 T-5 has the best gear ratios,the 2.95 first is identical to the original 3 spd in old trucks.The Camaro T-5 needs no reworking of the clutch spline or release bearing sleeve,takes the common late GM 26 spline clutch readily available in 10 and 11 inch diameters.However,the shifter is back too far for older trucks.You can adapt a S10 tailhousing quite easily if you're handy at such things.There's also an external shifter relocation kit available designed for Mustang T-5's that will work on a GM version.
The V-8 Camaro T-5 88 and up Worldclass is somewhat more durable too,a torque rating of about 300 ft lbs.up to the late 80's Camaro box has a mechanical speedo drive.

there are at least two different gear ratios:
one for autos (camaro/firebird), one for astro & S-10 / s-15/ sonomas. i do not believe trumac made any more.
you can put camaro gears into an s-10/15 housing. this is known as a Hybrid T-5

auto input shafts have more splines than s series. 16 vs 26 if my memory is working today.

Thanks, guys. I knew you would come through. Mongo's Garage has the perfect table. I found my tag number, and it confirmed what I had suspected.
I have 3.36 rearend, and with conservative driving, I can get 17 mpg. I think if I can change to a 2.73 rear, and a different T5, all will be well.
