I can tell you for sure it's a 64 or older. The 64 housing also had WE stamped on it. The 65 had HC, both were 3.73's.
'65 C-10, 65 L-60, 65 C-80, 72 C-60 & and a bunch of old Chevy cars.
Never time to do it right, always time to do it over.

Best I could find out is 63 and 64, 6 lug, had these style panhard bars and 63 has a pressed on backing plate and 64 has a welded. This is welded. I am trying to confirm this 1964 idea with the numbers. This is to get correct brake/axle parts. it seems like 64 and up stayed pretty much the same. HOWEVER! the 64 rear axle seal is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Can't find any other numbers/date code on it (yet). Thanks for the help Mearl, anyone else?

It is for both 63 and 64. The 7 is the month it was made.Thus it is a july axle. The 09 is the day built. The distinguising facter here is where the stamped numbe is located. For 63 it says it is stamped on the bottom of the differential carrier housing just forward of the cover. The 64 is stamped on the the forward side of the left axle tube near the carrier housing. Hope this helps.
