Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 17 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2010 Posts: 17 | I have a 50 1/2 ton tank still behind the seat converted to 12 V generator 2 different 12 gauges one brand new. 2 different fuel senders 1 brand new Trouble has always been that when I power up, the fuel gauge moves from about 1/2 to E. Even on the bench. Sender measures correctly from .5 to 30 ohm bottom to top. Don't know how to test the gauge. Running separate ground to gauge. Testing from 12+ to 12+ side of gauge, S to sender center post, ground from sender housing to - battery post and additional - battery to gauge housing.
Always the same result. Gauge needle moves from 1/2 half to E when powered up. No matter where float is. All suggestions welcome. Thanks

You need a good ground connection there to make the gauge work. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | Good sender? Then rig it up separate from vehicle using test wires and if that does not work, bad gauge. 12V sender? I understand everything you did but "S to sender center post", identify "S".
Right is right, even if everyone is against it, and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it. - William Penn | | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 17 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2010 Posts: 17 | Thanks for the reply.
I have used two senders, one that was in the truck and a brand new one. Both act the same.
Same with the gauge, one old, one brand new.
S is the wire from the "S" labeled (signal) post on the gauge. Both are alike.
Mix or match, all old, all new, always the same, gauge goes to E when powered, even on the bench?
This is driving me crazy!!!!

Who would have thought the the gauge housing, even the unpainted parts, and the solder blob aren't connected????? Here is NO continuity between the gauge housing and the BLOB!!! Maybe it's just me. when on the bench, ran another ground from battery -, to "the blob" and "VIOLA", . :>) it works. Only cost 2 days and 80 bucks in unnecessary parts. Except I did need a new float. THanks all, finally sunk in. 50 Chevy, back on the road.
