I have a bad vibration in the driveline of my 49 after getting it back together with the T5 trans and the 3.73 rear end. I installed a crossmember under the trans (tubular type). This took about 60% of the vibraton out. Next I installed shims to change the pinion angle a little and this took out about another 20%. I read alot of articles on setting up the driveline and I thought I had it right. I guess most things with these old trucks are trial and error. (emphisis on error) :rolleyes: Thats where I'm at now. I'm fairly certain that the wheels are all balanced, unless one slung a weight. And the driveshaft is new. I assume the shop I got it from balanced it. :rolleyes: Guess I'll keep teaking things till I get it right. If anyone has any suggestions that I should try, I'm all ears. Thanks.

Get a big hose clamp, and put it on the driveshaft. Clamp a 1-ounce wheel weight on under the clamp screw, and rotate it to different positions around the shaft until you minimize the vibration. Try this on the front, then the rear of the shaft and see if you can make the vibes go away. Don't assume the shaft is balanced; some shops don't do it unless you insist.

The easiest thing to do is pull the driveshaft and take it to a shop that specislizes in driveshaft balancing. I had a vibration for years until I took my shaft to a good shop. Mine was bent. a rebuild and balancing fixed the problem!! Hope this helps. Just because the driveshaft is new doesn't guarantee that it is balanced. Good luck!
