I'm interested in building another dually 4x4 only this time with a diesel engine but i'll still want to run the manual tran's. . . The plan: 5.9/6.7L cummins diesel, 6 spd manual tran's, gear driven transfer case, using a 60" cab to axle ford F-450 or F-550 chassie and axle's, dodge power plant cummins/6spd manual, gear driven transfer case 60-66 GMC cab. . .should be one tough truck. . . than you got solid engine solid tran's heavy duty chassie with spring suspension only reason for the ford frame and axle's. . . Why don't you look at some of the medium duty fords, they have the 5.9 Cummins in them stock.
What size truck do you want, 1 ton, 1.5, 2?? If you go with anything over a 1 ton it may be easier or better to use the original frame and add engine, trans, and axles.

I didn't crawl under for a look and didn't take photos. I wish I had. 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

They're already set up with a Chevy 292 mount system, and a stovebolt bellhousing like was used on late-50's trucks with the hydraulic linkage. It's also got a Chevy-spline 12" clutch so a SM-420 or a New Process 235 will be a bolt-on fit.
UPS used them, along with 292's and Ford 300's interchangeably in their high-cube vans. The Diesel is 120 HP at 3,600 RPM, with a turbo. The first one's going into a F-350 flatbed, replacing a 351 Windsor/C-6 automatic, and the next one will probably go into my 59 Burb with a 3/4 ton Dana 60 rear axle and a 3/4 ton IFS from a later-model Chevy truck.
