I am working on replacing the inner and outer cowl panels on my 55 1st series. I have the fenders and inner fenders off but have left the hood on. I now have to remove the hood. Do I just remove the bolts on the hinges or is there anything I have to be careful about? I am waiting until I can have a few people there so we can lift it out of the way without damaging the hood or anything else.
Thanks

I don't have extra hands when I need them so I did this work around using a ratcheting strap and a couple eye hooks.
Remove the back hood bolt loosen the other. Next loosen the fender well bolts and remove the top one then loosen the other hood bolt carefully till the hinge spring has some of the tension off of it. It makes getting it off a lot easier. Once the springs are off you can adjust the tension on the strap till it takes the weight and then remove the rest of the bolts.

Just remove it as you would anything else. If you have nothing to hold it up while you do it from the top side, you can put a 2x4 or some piping from the rad area to the top of the hood just to keep it up while you unbolt the hinges. Then lift the hood up and take the support out and lower it down, as you lower it you can grab each side of the hood and lift it out of the way. That's how I also do it since I never have anybody around to help lol

Thanks guys. I will try to do it on Friday. I can usually get help since this truck is for my daughter. All the guys think it is cool so the last time I asked for help she sent out a couple of text messages and there were 4 guys here in no time.

Might mark the hinge location with an awl on the cowl and the hood so you have a baseline when you reinstall the hood later

I have heard:
1. Remove the upper spring mount bolt. Loosen but do not remove the lower spring mount bolt.
2. Remove the two hinge bolts at the cab (not hood) on either side and let the hinge rest in the cab recess.
3. grab the hood from the front and lift up to disengage the spring mounts from the slots and carry the hood away.

All done by one person with adequate upper body strength. The hood remains in the open position the entire time all by itself.
