I took an Alternator from a 76 Chevelle and am going to mount it on the V8 small block in my 53.I am using the short water pump. The long shaft brackets that came from the Chevelle don't work. Are there any factory brackets that will fit or do I have to make one? Any info may be usefull.Thankyou

Plenty of aftermarket alt brackets out there. Pick up a Goodguys catalog, Summit, Google, etc.

You could use the bracket from a mid 60's car or truck. They mount on the front of the left exhaust manifold and have an adjustment arm that pivots on the water pump or intake manifold. Of course you have to have the correct exhaust manifold to go with it.

Alternator brackets up through 68 on cars and 72 on trucks will work. If your heads have mount holes then the 69-72 truck bracket is simple and compact, just two bolts to the front of the head and the adjustment arm over to a water pump bolt. There getting a little hard to find.

Thanks guys,I'd like to use the long shaft gear and pump, but that means I'd have to lose my chrome pulleys and buy new ones. It's the best way to go but more expensive so I'll just have to make a new alt mounting bracket. Thanks again for your input.

If you can not find the adjustment arm, I have used a turnbuckle in many many engine installs. Makes adjusting belt tension easy, especially at the track, or on the road. Making the bracket will be fairly easy.
