don't seem to be getting oil up to the rockers. 60psi on gauge on filter. very little seeping from hole in top of rocker. When I shut it down and move rocker over on shaft, oil does come out of the shaft hole. But no way to check if it's under pressure when running. do the rockers have channels to bring oil from shaft up to top of rocker hole? could they be blocked? (hole in rocker shaft is at 3 oclock and whole in rocker top is at 12 oclock). could oil channels through head be blocked by gasket?

Could you (and this might sound dumb, I don't have a v6) run it for a few minutes with the valve covers off?
Or cut the tops out of a set of sacrificial covers?

Or, can you (again, I dunno anything about v6) run the oil pump by its self, like on the 216-235 (pull out dizzy)

Then you could see the oil dripping out.

Hy DThela, According to the oil system diagram in one of my Motors manuals the rocker oil is fed from the rear cam bearing up through the block and head, hope that helps.

I had it running. sounded like rockers weren't adjusted so i took off covers, they were dry under the cover tops! motor hass been sitting 8 years before i got the rest of the truck finished after having motor re\built 8 years ago. I think i'll check to see if bolts holding the rocker shaft ends on have the holes through them. I thought the pushrods were hollow, but noooooo lolol thought the assembly lube hardened everywhere over the years.

good thing before i started it i squirted a quart of oil through the breather caps with a flexible oil can nozzle to make sure everything had some oil on it in the top half.

oil goes up both cam bearings front and rear to shaft.

someone mentioned that the shafts are L and right sided? would explain the holes in the shaft not matching with the holes in the rockers, unless the rockers have groves (like a main bearing)in them to let the oil by.

I had it running by the way, small amount of oil oozing out the rockers only

pulled off the end cap of the rocker shaft and cranked motor, NO oil came out! WTF running out of ideas!!! HELP

Hy DThela, cranking the engine may not result in oil coming up that far, I would run the engine to be sure. I checked my Motors manual, and I found the following note about rocker shaft installation " Use special bolt at position (1) (fig. 7) to assure correct position of shaft (6). NOTE: Check length of special bolt, if 2 7/8 inch bolt is used install two flat washers under bolt. If 2 3/4" inch bolt is used install one flat washer under bolt." Position one is indicated in fig.7 as the rear most rocker assembly bolt, number six is just indicating the rocker shaft, hope that helps.

it was running for 15 minutes! 3B, yes I know about the bolts, don't know why that would make a difference, the oil has a seperate hole than the bolt. drivers side oil comes up the front shaft mount back one on the passenger side. neither has oil.

Hy DThela, I did quite a bit of reading last night about the oiling system, about all I can see that would cause no oil to the rockers is an incorrect installation of the cam bearings, resulting in the holes not lining up with the holes in the block. The maintenance manual refers to the split in the cam bearing being right at the top when installed. I know you don't want to hear/read that because it isn't an easy thing to check, and even harder to correct.

i have a 305 v6 in the engine stand. oil and filter installed. right head and rocker shaft installed. left head off. i spin the oil pump clockwise with a drill. with gages at the filter reading 60# and reading pressure at the right front top of block reading 50#. I have no. oil up through the left side of block stud port. no oil up to the right rocker shaft. need help. i have found at tear down a small tapperd plug in the bottem of pan. i have taken the small plug to different engine builders. no help.
